In addition to my freelance work as a content strategist and copywriter, I try to be pretty involved the local Raleigh community.
So, on the rare occasion I’m not working, I’m probably busy with one of the things below.
Dog Trainer at Superior Dog Training
I’ve worked at Superior Dog Training, first as an assistant and now as an instructor, since summer of 2013. I teach puppy 101 and manners classes, as well as several advanced classes on loose leash walking, distraction proofing, and tricks; I also oversee the free puppy parties on Sunday evenings. Check out the current class offerings over on Superior’s website, www.superiordogtraininginc.com.
Blogger at Dog Trainer Games
Back in May, 2015 I decided that amid all the massive amounts of content out there on dog training, one topic was drastically undercovered – teaching training. Specifically, games to use when teaching a dog training class (or private lessons). So I found a few other dog trainers and started dogtrainergames.com.
It’s nothing fancy – but we post a new game or article about teaching dog training classes every week, and send out an email every Wednesday with the latest.
In September of 2012 I adopted an 8-month-old German Shepherd who had more energy than she knew what to do with and I needed a way to channel that energy productively.
As most new dog owners do, I signed up for dog training classes. It wasn’t long before she knew her basics and we were looking for new things to learn and new ways to expend that energy… and that’s when we learned about Treibball.
Treibball is a game where dogs “herd” exercises balls into a goal. It requires impulse control, distance work, and precision. We were hooked. As of March 2015, Riley and I earned our Championship; now we’re turning our focus to new sports and tricks, but will continue to do treibball as part of the Superior Dog Demo team.
Volunteer Marketing Director for Movember Team RDU
Movember’s mission is to have an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health.
Specifically, Movember is working to raise awareness about prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s mental health. In addition to raising awareness, it’s working to raise funds for further research.
I got involved with Movember Team RDU in 2014 after joining the team for their Music, Mustache’s & Men’s Health party in 2013 and learning more about the organization. You can check out what we’re up to at our website, www.movemberteamrdu.com.

The Raleigh Public Record is a nonprofit news organization that covers what’s going on in Raleigh—primarily those stories that traditional media no longer cover.
As a member of the Advisory Board, I provide input that helps expand the Record’s news coverage and quality, as well as advise on longer-term strategic growth. To learn more about the Raleigh Public Record, check out the website, www.raleighpublicrecord.org.
